This fragmented collage evokes the metaphorical richness of the colour blue: a bruise, the blues, the feeling of being in love.
Between ‘blue for you’, ‘you bruise my heart’ and ‘you give me the blues’, pop and vintage images intertwine, creating a sense of tension.
With Bruise, the artist shifts her focus from the depicted body to the suggested body.
The fragmented central composition evokes a surface that is both alluring and altered, whose materiality is reminiscent of both skin and a screen.
Bruise suggests a mark, an impact, a memory of the shock imprinted on the surface.
What initially appears decorative or luminous then takes on a more ambivalent dimension, in which the relationships between visibility, vulnerability and the construction of the gaze are replayed.
Through this piece, the collage becomes a space of projection and friction, where the image oscillates between attraction and alteration.
